Mihalishki - is a large village of Astravyets district, Grodno region of Belarus. The main attraction of the village Mihalishki is ancient Catholic church of St. Michael the Archangel. This temple was erected at the Augustinian monastery, which was founded in 1622. Immediately, we note that in addition to the temple, from the monastery to the present day nothing more remained. According to various sources, the church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village Mihalishki was erected either in 1653 or in 1662. In any case, as you can see, this is a very ancient temple. The church was consecrated in honor of St. Michael the Archangel in 1700. At that time, St. Michael the Archangel was considered the chief protector and patron saint of the whole of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The author of the famous monument of Belarusian religious architecture is considered the architect Belgian origin Christopher Pence. This architect founded a whole dynasty of architects and decorators in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The church was built in the style of "Sarmat" baroque. This is the first creation of this style in the history of Belarusian architecture. Church of St. Michael the Archangel in the village Mihalishki inherent compactness, rationalism and precise structural calculation. Temple vaguely reminiscent of some temples of the defensive type, but in reality there is only simulated warlike appearance of a medieval castle, but no defensive functions of the church does not.

At the same austere, even ascetic somewhere in the external appearance of the temple contrasts strongly with very lush and beautiful Baroque interior decoration. Particularly rich decor characterized by a two-tier main altar with twisted columns. Its lower tier is a valuable icon of St. Michael the Archangel, made in the 18th century. The contrast between the exterior and interior of the church, according to the authors, was to make a strong impression on the faithful. I cope with this feature and the church so far. These bas-reliefs were made in the years 1684-1700 and in its original form survived to our time. The interior decoration of the church resembles the famous temple of Peter and Paul in Vilnius, as the architect Pence worked on the interior of the church together with the Italian artist Pietro Pertti - one of the authors of sculptures and interior decoration of the temple in Vilnius.

A few milestones in the history of the temple. The church of St. Michael the Archangel dungeon in the village for a long time made Mihalishki burial of monks and local landowners. In 1832, after the defeat of the corresponding uprising, Augustinian monastery in the village of Mihalishki it was closed, and the temple became an ordinary parish. The church was damaged in World War I, but later, in the late 1920s, renovated. Today, the temple is also in excellent condition, it is applicable. The church in the village Mihalishki - a very important architectural monument of the 17th century, a great cultural and historical value and very interesting attraction of Belarus. Of particular value are separate and also the original bas-relief, preserved in the interior decoration of the church from the late 17th century.
