Smarhon - is a city of Grodno region of Belarus, the administrative center of the Smarhon district. The main attraction of the city of Smarhon is the Catholic church of St. Michael the Archangel, which was built here in 1612. Originally this temple was erected as a Calvinistic gathering on the site of an even more ancient wooden Protestant church. However, as early as 1621 the church was transferred to Catholics. After the defeat of the uprising of 1863-64, namely in 1866, the church in the city of Smarhon was rebuilt under the Orthodox church. During the First World War, the temple was badly damaged. In 1921, when Smarhon was a part of Poland, the church was again given to the Catholics, and then it was completely restored.

In 1947 the church in Smarhon was closed by the Soviet authorities, after which it was used as a warehouse and a shop. In the early 1970s, the temple was restored again, but it was returned to its original historical appearance. After that, until the end of the 1980s, the exhibition hall was located here. In 1990, the building of temple again became a functioning church. So, the church in Smarhon, as we see, is very ancient, it is already more than four hundred years old, and it has a very rich history. As it is supposed to be a cult construction of the beginning of the 17th century, the architecture of this church is not very rich, but on the contrary, it differs with severe restraint. In some places the walls of the temple reach three meters in thickness.

The church in Smarhon, of course, attracts most tourists and travelers due to its venerable age and rich history. The architecture of the temple is less attractive, but very informative, because it reflects the spirit of a whole era, from which very few architectural monuments have survived to this day. At the same time, the church in Smarhon, being one of these monuments, has almost completely preserved its original appearance, is in good condition and serves as an excellent and rare example of a temple of the early 17th century. For this reason, the church in the city of Smarhon is a very significant historical and cultural value and an important tourist attraction of Belarus. Close to the church in the city of Smarhon there is a Catholic youth center, whose building, although modern, but notable among urban buildings.

The second important sight of the city of Smarhon is the Transfiguration Orthodox cathedral. This temple was built quite recently - at the beginning of the 21st century, at the site where the Orthodox shrines were located before. The cathedral in the city of Smarhon became the architectural dominant of the entire settlement. The building of this temple is one of the largest structures in the city of Smarhon. Undoubtedly, although this architectural monument is also modern, nevertheless it is already an interesting landmark of the city of Smarhon.
