Svir - is a large village of Myadzyel district, Minsk region of Belarus. The village of Svir is very picturesque located on the shore of the lake of the same name. The key attraction of the village of Svir is the Catholic church of St. Nicholas. This unusual temple was originally built in 1649-53. However, in 1903-09 the church in Svir settlement was very much completed and reconstructed. It should be noted that the work that was carried out with the church in the beginning of the 20th century was so serious that the foundations and walls of the 17th century building are now only a small part of the new church.

Nevertheless, it is important that the original 17th-century temple was completed, and not destroyed, in order to build a new temple in its place. Partly due to this, as a result of the reconstruction of the early 20th century, a very unusual, memorable, richly decorated and beautiful temple appeared in the village of Svir, with many architectural styles and techniques intertwined in its external decoration. Like many other churches in Belarus during the Soviet era, the church of St. Nicholas in the village of Svir was closed. The church was closed in 1961. In the 1980s, a factory for the production of automobile license plates was even placed in the walls of the church. In 1990 the church was returned to the Catholic Church. Then the church was restored. After the completion of the restoration works the temple resumed its functioning. Since then, not too little time has passed, during which the church in the village of Svir several times was repaired and updated. In our time, if necessary, similar work is also sometimes carried out.

The church in the village of Svir is surrounded by an ancient stone fence of the 19th century, which also includes several small chapels and a little farm building. On the territory near the church you can also find a large bell, and a sculpture in the form of a twisted cross, dedicated to the memory of the time when the church was closed. Also, very close to the church there is a building of the former plebania (the house of a priest and parish administration), built in the early 20th century. To date, this building has been converted into an ordinary dwelling house. The church of St. Nicholas in the village of Svir is the highest object of all the surrounding area and is visible from afar. This temple (like the whole village) is very beautifully located on the shore of lake Svir. At the same time, the unusual appearance of this church is perfectly combined with the beauty of surrounding nature. The church in the village of Svir is an important architectural monument of the 17th century, a very interesting sight and cultural and historical value of Belarus.

However, in addition to the church in the village of Svir there are also a whole series of small sights (from the top to down, further in the photo): a wooden Old Believer church of Dormition of the Mother of God, built in 1906; the wooden Orthodox church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, built in recent times; an ancient settlement (the place where once stood a fortified wooden castle) of the era of early feudalism; and finally, several notable buildings of the late 19th - early 20th centuries, which can be attributed to the ordinary building of the village of Svir.

In addition, it is necessary to note that in the village of Svir there are all elements of the basic infrastructure, as well as some elements of the tourist infrastructure. So, in addition to several shops of different profiles, bank and post offices, a pharmacy, there is also a small cafe and even a hotel. In addition, as has been repeatedly mentioned, the village of Svir is located on the shore of a large and picturesque lake. Thus, the village of Svir is a very attractive tourist destination for travelers to Belarus. It perfectly combines the beauty of the Belarusian nature, relatively developed infrastructure and many architectural attractions, among which there is a very old and unusual church. Tourists and travelers around Belarus will be able to spend some time here with pleasure.
