Zaslawye (Zaslaŭje) - is a city of Minsk district, Minsk region of Belarus, one of the oldest cities in Belarus, was first mentioned in 1127. Several very valuable historical, cultural and architectural sights have been preserved in the city of Zaslawye. The most valuable and important among them is the Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord. This stone cathedral was built in 1577 and is located on the territory of an ancient settlement (castle). Initially, the temple was Calvinist, then Catholic, later Uniate, and finally Orthodox. During the Second World War, the church was partially damaged. In 1972, the temple was restored and adapted as a museum of folk crafts and handicrafts. In the 1980s, the temple was returned to the Orthodox Church. Today this temple in the city of Zaslawye is the second cathedral of the Minsk diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church.
This cathedral is also one of the most expressive monuments of defense and cult architecture that have survived to our time on the territory of Belarus. Today this temple is in excellent condition. The venerable age, unique architecture and history, as well as the excellent current state make the Orthodox Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the city of Zaslawye one of the most important architectural monuments of all Belarus. This is a very significant cultural and historical value and landmark of the country. A visit to the cathedral in the city of Zaslawye is included in many excursion routes. The temple is also extremely popular among individual travelers and tourists. In addition to the cathedral, on the territory of the ancient fortress (settlement) in the city of Zaslawye, there are also ramparts, ditches and ruins of the entrance castle gates. Here, near the temple, there is an interesting stone cross and several small modern monuments.
Another important attraction of the city of Zaslawye is the Catholic church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This small stone church was built in the city of Zaslawye from 1774 to 1799. The church is located on the central, formerly market, square of the city of Zaslawye. In the second half of the 19th century, the temple was closed by the Russian authorities, later transferred to the Orthodox Church and significantly rebuilt. The Orthodox church in the building of the temple functioned until 1941. During the Second World War, the church in the city of Zaslawye was seriously damaged. In 1998, the temple was returned to the Catholic Church. Restoration work continued until the end of the 2010s. Currently, the Catholic church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is in excellent condition and is an interesting architectural monument of the 18th century, historical and cultural value and an important landmark of Belarus.
Another very valuable and interesting attraction of the city of Zaslawye is the open-air ethnographic museum, which is officially called: Ethnographic complex "Mlyn" (that is, a mill). In this museum, on a small square, several original old wooden buildings from the late 19th - early 20th centuries are collected. Among them are: a steam mill, a barn, a smithy and a residential building where customers of the mill could spend the night. By the way, according to some information, the mill in the town of Zaslawye is the only surviving old wooden steam mill in Belarus. All of these buildings are in very good condition and are maintained. Inside the mill, barn and smithy there is a museum exposition that introduces visitors to tools, technologies and some household items, which were used in Belarus at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The Ethnographic Museum in the city of Zaslawye can be very interesting and attractive for those tourists and travelers who are interested in the culture and history of Belarus. All buildings that make up the museum are architectural monuments and are protected by the state.
In addition to the listed main attractions of the city of Zaslawye, there are many other additional attractions here. Namely: several more museums, several parks, squares or park areas, several very remarkable monuments and memorials, an amphitheater, many very expressive buildings that can be attributed to the ordinary historical buildings of the city of Zaslawye. All these sights are quite densely located in the historical center of the city of Zaslawye, in the same place where the cathedral, Catholic church and ethnographic museum are located. All together, the sights of the city of Zaslawye form a unique architectural space, which is combined into a real museum-reserve.
The historical and cultural museum-reserve "Zaslawye" is a unique territory of the historical center of the ancient city of Zaslawye with preserved architectural and archeological monuments of the 10th - 20th centuries and museum objects that are under the protection and/or management of the state institution of the same name. It should also be noted that Zaslawye is a fairly large city. There are all basic and tourist infrastructure facilities here: cafes, restaurants, shops, banks, etc. Moreover, Zaslawye is located very close to Minsk. You can get to Zaslawye very comfortably from Minsk both by highway and by rail. Many attractions, developed infrastructure and good transport accessibility make the city of Zaslawye a very popular destination for tourists and travelers in Belarus.
