Žodziški - is a large village of Smarhon district, Grodno region of Belarus. The large village of Žodziški is located on the high bank of the Viliya River. The main attraction of the village of Žodziški is the Catholic church of the Holy Trinity. This temple was built from 1600 to 1612. The architectural style of the church in the village of Žodziški is Renaissance. According to most sources, the temple was originally Calvinist and became Catholic at the very beginning of the 18th century, presumably in 1708. During its more than four hundred-year history, the Catholic church in the village of Žodziški has been repeatedly completed and restored. During the First World War, the temple was seriously damaged, in particular, the bell tower was completely destroyed. In the 20s of the 20th century, when the village of Žodziški was part of interwar Poland, the Catholic church of the Holy Trinity was once again restored, but the bell tower was never restored.
The temple did not stop functioning even in the most difficult times. The Catholic church in the village of Žodziški remained open in the second half of the 20th century under Soviet rule. The area around the temple is surrounded by a natural stone fence. The central entrance is decorated with a brama (gate). The architectural ensemble of the Catholic church in the village of Žodziški is complemented by small chapels located at the corners of the fence. The temple has a large functioning old organ dating from 1727. The Viliya River flows less than a hundred meters behind the church. However, the river is not visible from the territory of the temple because of the dense vegetation. The Catholic church of the Holy Trinity in the village of Žodziški is currently completely restored, is in excellent condition, is an architectural monument of the early 17th century, historical and cultural value and an important landmark of Belarus.
The list of landmarks of the large village Žodziški is not limited to the Catholic church alone. There is also an old and extensive manor complex. The central building of the complex is a small palace. This building was erected from 1757 to 1766 as a Jesuit collegium. At the end of the 18th century, the collegium was rebuilt into a palace, around which a whole manor complex began to form. Today, a psychiatric hospital is located in the building of the former palace in the village of Žodziški. Another very remarkable building of the manor complex is the former brovar (distillery), built at the end of the 19th century. Today this building is in very good condition and attracts the attention of tourists and travelers. In addition, a water mill built in 1871 was also part of the manor complex. In 1997, this mill was completely restored. Now the mill in the village of Žodziški is in excellent condition. According to some information, this mill is the only efficient water mill in Belarus. In addition, an interesting local history and ethnographic museum and a restaurant operate on the basis of this mill. The manor complex in the village of Žodziški is decorated with a small artificial reservoir, on the banks of which the mill is located.
Another attraction of the village of Žodziški is the Orthodox church of Saints Constantine and Helena. This modern temple was built in 2006. Thus, the village of Žodziški is a very good destination for a weekend tourist trip. There are quite a lot of very interesting architectural monuments, in particular an ancient Catholic church, a beautiful museum of local lore in the building of an original mill of the 19th century, as well as other elements of the estate complex and an Orthodox church. All these attractions are located along the banks of the Viliya River. The village of Žodziški also has all the basic infrastructure elements such as shops, a bank and a post office.
