Iwye - is a town of Grodno region of Belarus, the administrative center of the Iwye district. The main attraction of the city of Iwye is the complex of buildings of the former Bernardine monastery. The central place in the complex of the buildings of the monastery is occupied by the Catholic church of Saints Peter and Paul. This ancient temple was originally built in the town of Iwye from 1491 to 1495. Then the church in the town of Iwye was significantly reconstructed and renovated several times. During the Russian-Polish war of the middle of the 17th century, the temple suffered very badly. After this, during the long restoration phase, the church in Iwye was significantly modified and in its main features acquired a modern look. The renewed temple was consecrated only in 1787. Nevertheless, the basis of the church in the town of Iwye is the temple of the 15th century.
The monastery in the town of Iwye was founded in the early 17th century. Accordingly, the residential buildings of the monastery were added to the church in the first half of the 17th century. The monastery was abolished in the middle of the 19th century. Today the church in the town of Iwye has been completely restored. The temple is located on one of the highest points of the entire surrounding area. The church in Iwye is well seen from many points of the town, being its main high-rise and architectural dominant. This temple is a very important Belarusian landmark and a cultural and historical monument. The church in Iwye is already over 500 years old, and therefore it deserves special attention of tourists.
Very remarkable is also the statue of Jesus Christ, located next to the church in the town of Iwye. The statue was built not so long ago, in 2002. Like the church itself, the statue of Christ was placed very successfully, on one of the highest points of the city of Iwye. The statue depicts Jesus Christ spreading his arms over the city. The location and appearance of the statue is very similar to the famous sculpture in Rio de Janeiro, although the size of the statue of Christ in the city of Iwye is incomparably smaller. This statue enjoys almost more popularity among tourists than the church itself and the monastic buildings.
The city Iwye remained ordinary city building from the late 19th century. Among the buildings belonging to it, there is a water mill, a synagogue and a lot more. All these buildings are historical and cultural monuments, but now other functions, they are administrative, commercial or residential buildings. Buildings look very cute and beautiful. Looking at these streets you can imagine looked like typical Belarusian town in the late 19th century. There is in the city Iwye and a small Orthodox church, newly remodeled apartment house from the early 20th century.
The city Iwye is also famous for its unique monument: "In honor of the friendship and unity of religions Iwye district". This monument was erected in 2012 in the central square of the city. The monument is a four stele with majestic arches, each dedicated to one of the four denominations, representatives of which live in the city Iwye and district: Catholics and Orthodox Christians, Muslims and Jews. This sculpture - it is a very unique monument, these are not many around the world. This monument is also very popular among tourists.
